Prior to launching Dobson Media Group in 1999, Melanie was the corporate publicity manager at Focus on the Family where she was responsible for the publicity of events, products, films, and TV specials. Melanie received her undergraduate degree in journalism from Liberty University and her master's degree in communication from Regent University. She has worked in the fields of publicity and journalism for fifteen years including two years as a publicist for The Family Channel.
Melanie and her husband, Jon, met in Colorado Springs in 1997 at Vanguard Church. Jon works in the field of computer animation. Since they've been married, the Dobsons have relocated numerous times including stints in Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Colorado, Berlin, and Southern California. These days they are enjoying their new home in the Pacific Northwest.
Jon and Melanie have adopted their two daughters —Karly (6) and Kinzel (5). When Melanie isn't writing or entertaining their girls, she enjoys exploring ghost towns and dusty back roads, traveling, hiking, line dancing, and reading inspirational fiction.

I have a dream…sounds poetic doesn’t it? But seriously, most of us, or at the least many of you reading this blog, dream of publication. Ultimately, we have hopes and dreams of someday seeing our work in printed form. Some just want fame. Some want the added income the royalty checks bring in. Some want to be able to walk into their local library and see their books on the shelf.
Whatever reason you have for wanting it, it’s important to you. It’s significant and the dream is worth having. But what you might not realize is how important it is to those around you. Specifically your children.
I was at the state meeting we had a few weeks ago talking to a couple of new friends and we were talking about motivation and how we struggle to find time to write and to really keep fighting for our dream of publication. I told one of the girls that I’d recently realized I have to keep pursuing this elusive dream because what would happen to my little boy if he watched his mom want something so much and then just give up. He’d think it’s okay to let go of his dreams. I can’t be that mom. I can’t be that example. I have a dream and as long as I am able to pursue it, I will! What about you? I recently finished Ronie Kendig’s new release, Dead Reckoning. From the first page I was hooked. This is a smart, action packed suspense that will keep you turning those pages until the very end.
I was impressed with Kendig’s ability to write so convincingly about an area and a subject matter that is so foreign and out of the realm of understanding for most average Americans. I really felt she’d done a ton of homework and research to make this a truly believable read.
The story was so unique with the terrorist plots and the foreign locale it was hard to put down. I also loved the romance. I found myself really drawn to these characters and so wanted them to end up together.
One little thing worth mentioning—I didn’t love the cover. Because I’m someone who sadly judges books by covers, I might not have picked this one up by the cover alone. That would have been a mistake. I'd have missed out on a great adventure. So, if you are like me, do not judge this book by the cover!
All and all a tremendous debut novel for Kendig. Can’t wait to read more by this great author!

Ronie has been married since 1990 to a man who can easily be defined in classic terms as a hero. She has four beautiful children. Her eldest daughter is 16 this year, her second daughter will be 13, and her twin boys are 10. After having four children, she finally finished her degree in December 2006. She now has a B.S. in Psychology through Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. Getting her degree is a huge triumph for both her and her family--they survived!
This degree has also given her a fabulous perspective on her characters

I didn't have the best upbringing. I didn't grow up in a Christian home and I've never thought back on my childhood as happy. In fact it was painful in a lot of ways. All that to say I've been thinking a lot about what I'll do when my mother is gone. Or even my dad. I'm an only child and I'm pretty sure that regardless of our relationship I'm going to have a lot of regrets.
I've been thinking how sad it will be that we've never been able to bridge the gap between the mistakes of the past and present day. We have such a dysfunctional relationship it's exhausting. However I've been thinking about what it will feel like 20 years from now when I'm sitting alone thinking of my parents and wishing I had fond memories to reminisce about. It occurred to me that it's within my power to change that future. I could do something about it right now. I could be the one to make those fun memories happen. So I've decided to host a get together with my mom, my girl cousins, and my aunts. I'm thinking of a simple picnic at the park once the weather warms up. Something that is low key. No stress and little clean up. I want all of us to feel happy and relaxed and come away with a great memory. I'm hoping for lots of laughter.

Most readers want to know how authors 'got started' writing. My first novel, Threads of Love, was conceived when I was commuting sixty miles to work each day. I had absolutely no idea how publication of a book occurred and had given no thought to the concept. However, through a co-worker, I was directed to Tracie Peterson who, at that time, worked down the hall from me.
With a graciousness that continues to amaze me, Tracie agreed to read my story, directed me to a publisher, and gave me information on a Christian writers conference. Since that first encounter many years ago, I have been blessed with the publication of numerous books, novellas and a juvenile fiction book. Joyously, Tracie and I had the opportunity to develop a blessed friendship. In fact, we have co-authored several series together, including The Bells of Lowell, the Lights of Lowell and The Broadmoor Legacy. In addition, I have continued to write several solo series.
